Slices of Story
Peter Boizot, founder of PizzaExpress, revolutionized UK dining by introducing authentic Italian pizza in 1965. A philanthropist and jazz enthusiast, he expanded the brand globally, leaving a legacy of innovation, passion for food, and a commitment to quality and culture.

Our Story
Welcome to PizzaExpress, where your marble table awaits. Since 1965, when our founder, Peter Boizot, opened the UK’s first pizzeria in London’s Soho, PizzaExpress has been bringing people together to enjoy delicious pizza with family and friends.
Nearly 60 years after our first restaurant opened, we now have over 360 pizzerias across the UK and Ireland, have expanded to 12 markets internationally, our range is now sold in supermarkets across the country, and pizzas can now be enjoyed at home via delivery.
Through all of this, we’ve stayed true to our Soho and jazz roots, with PizzaExpress Live presenting more than 1,500 shows every year across a number of venues, which led to the launch of the PX Records label in early 2023.
At PizzaExpress, your main course is our main event and we’re ready to welcome you.

Peter’s interests expanded beyond the realms of pizza and his adoration of jazz music permeated the business. Turning the basement of the Dean Street site into a jazz club, the venue became a celebrated destination in its own right, with famous performers such as Jamie Cullum and Norah Jones gracing the keys. Peter was also the instigator of the Soho Jazz festival, set up a jazz magazine called Boz and even went so far as to set up a PizzaExpress record label!
